Pair Of Japanese Satsuma Vases. 1900 - 1920
 
Elegant pair of Japanese Satsuma-style porcelain vases, dating from the late Meiji to early Taisho period, circa 1900–1920.
Each vase has a tall square-section form, with four hand-painted sides decorated with continuous Japanese figural scenes. The decoration depicts lively town and garden settings with traditionally dressed figures, architectural details, market scenes and delicate landscape elements. The upper sections are enriched with circular mon-style motifs, fine gilt ornamentation and raised decorative details.
The underside bears a red Japanese mark, which appears to read “Nippon Yokohama / Satsuma ware”, linking the pair to Yokohama Satsuma export production of the late 19th and early 20th century. Yokohama was an important centre for Japanese export ceramics during the Meiji and Taisho periods.
A highly decorative and finely detailed pair, ideal for collectors of Japanese ceramics, Asian decorative arts or refined antique interiors.
The vases are in good antique condition, with age-related wear, light rubbing to the gilding, minor surface marks and natural glaze crazing consistent with age. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
